Useful Information for Traveling in Sri Lanka

Romanian citizens need a visa to enter Sri Lanka, and the passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the country. Sri Lankan authorities recognize temporary Romanian passports (they have the same status as other passport types). The short-stay tourist visa for Sri Lanka can be obtained upon entry (VISA ON ARRIVAL). The visa fee can be paid using electronic payment methods.

Time Zone: GMT +5:30 hours;

Telephone Code: +94;

Climate: Tropical with manifestations of the northeast monsoon (December - March) and southwest monsoon (June - October), with heavy rainfall in the southwest and in the highlands (2,400 – 4,000 mm/year) and reduced rainfall in the north where the dry season lasts up to 7 months. The average annual temperature ranges from 16°C in Nuwara Eliya (central area) to 38°C in Trincomalee (northeast coast). The annual temperature averages between 28° - 30°C, with temperature differences between night and day of about 4° - 7°C.

Travel Tips:

Nudity and topless sunbathing at the beach or pool are illegal.To visit temples, the following must be observed: entry without shoes, knees and shoulders must be covered.During a safari, we recommend always paying attention to the guide's instructions, as wild animals are unpredictable. Avoid direct contact with wild animals and do not disturb them with unusual noises, throw things to attract their attention, feed them, or make loud noises. Do not wear bright-colored clothing or use perfumes, as elephants and other animals can sense them from a considerable distance. It is preferable to wear gray, cream, brown, or other earth tones.

General Useful Information

You must arrive at the airport for your meeting with the representative/group leader 3 hours before the announced departure time! Presenting your plane ticket at boarding is mandatory! Allowable luggage for travel – 20 kg checked luggage and max. 7 kg carry-on luggage for each passenger.

ATTENTION:

Plane tickets are non-refundable and do not allow changes after issuance. The accuracy of the names and personal data of travelers is the responsibility of the intermediary agency/agent who made the registration; any changes are subject to a fee of 25€/change/reservation until the tickets are issued. Rooms are assigned by reception, and check-in on the first day and check-out on the last day will depend on the hourly policy of each hotel and current availability (generally check-in is after 14:00, and check-out is before 12:00). The type of room should be requested at registration. Note! The double bed (matrimonial) in some hotels may consist of two single beds pushed together. The third bed may depend on the hotel's facilities: a single bed, a folding bed, or a sofa. There are hotels where a child up to 11.99 years is allowed to sleep in the parents' bed and thus has free accommodation or a significant discount.

Some hotels may require guarantees and additional payments for the use of room facilities (e.g., minibar/fridge, safe, air conditioning) unless stated otherwise. We recommend tourists, upon check-in at the hotel, to inquire at the reception about these additional costs; in some 4- and 5-star hotels, a cash or card guarantee is required, which is returned/unblocked upon check-out. These amounts are blocked to guarantee the payment for hotel facilities. All accommodation units, as well as means of transport, are classified by the local authorities of the destination countries, according to internal procedures and local regulations, which vary from country to country. Decent attire is mandatory for any dinner served at one of the hotel restaurants. Men are required to wear long pants and closed shoes (not shorts and flip-flops or sandals), while women should be dressed decently.

Important! In external destinations, festive meals offered on the occasion of events or holidays (Easter, Christmas, New Year's) differ from traditional Romanian meals, both in menu and duration of entertainment.

Services of Group Leader

Cocktail Holidays provides a group leader for the mentioned period, who speaks Romanian.

They will oversee that all services conform to the program presented at registration.

The group leader may make changes to the program (changing the order of activities, times), without affecting the structure of the services.

If there are non-compliant elements compared to the purchased program, the group leader must make every effort to remedy the issues on site.

Transport Means

ATTENTION! Plane tickets are non-refundable and do not allow changes after issuance. In the case of service packages that include air transport (regular flight), the organizing travel agency is not responsible for any changes in departure and arrival times. If the carrier is responsible for these delays, they will assist tourists according to EC Regulation 261/2004 of the European Parliament. The first and last days of the tour are dedicated to traveling to/from the destination. Departure and arrival times are indicative; they may be changed by the carrier with prior notice, and the organizing agency cannot be held responsible for any changes. Seating in the minibus/coaches at the destination is done by the group leader based on the registration list, starting from the 2nd row of seats in the transport. For the safety of passengers during the trip, the first row of seats is reserved for the group leader and local guide.

Insurance can be purchased optionally, with rates starting from 43 €/person.

Potential Price Changes

The prices agreed upon at the signing of the contract may increase or decrease depending on certain objective factors. Price increases are influenced by increases in exchange rates, increases in oil prices, increases in overflight taxes, etc. In the event of a price increase greater than 8%, the customer may terminate the contract without paying withdrawal penalties. Price decreases may be due to promotions made by external partners or by the organizing agency. These discounts are limited for a certain period and for a certain number of places. The promotion may be interrupted before the end of the validity period without the obligation on the part of the organizer to announce the exhaustion of available seats. At the same time, the organizing agency is not obligated to reduce the price according to the promotion for customers who have previously purchased the same package but at a higher price.
